Be Your Own Bartender: My Top 5 Cocktails to Make at Home

If there’s one thing I miss most about not being able to go places nowadays, it’s grabbing drinks with my friends and family. Not only do I love to sip on a good cocktail, but I love the vibe that comes along with going out. You get a little dressed up, you go a little later in the evening, you meet up with some of your favorite people (or all), and you drink and make memories that you’ll remember forever. Well, I decided I needed to bring the bars to me. After some lengthy research I have found some of the perfect cocktails to enjoy during this shelter-in-place and they definitely deserve to be shared. So, if you’re like me and don’t wait until five o’clock to start drinking, then grab a shaker and start shaking!

THE MARGARITA

First up, the classic Margarita. One of the easiest drinks you can make that will taste like it came straight from the bar. I’m not a huge tequila fan, but you just can’t go wrong with a margarita. You only need three ingredients, so what’s not to like??

INGREDIENTS- makes 2.

4 oz. tequila

2 oz. triple sec

1 1/2 oz. lime juice

Lime wedge, for garnish

Salt, for rim

1. Take two glasses of your choice and wet the rims. Shake some salt out onto a plate and coat the rims of the glasses with salt. It’s not a margarita without salt!

2. Add the tequila, triple sex, and lime juice into a shaker and shake for about 10 seconds.

3. Fill both glasses with ice and strain into both glasses. Garnish with a lime wedge.

BLACKBERRY MOJITOS

Mojitos, in my opinion, are the closest you’ll get to an alcoholic soda than you’ll ever get. They are super easy and refreshing to drink, which makes your time much more enjoyable.

INGREDIENTS- makes 2.

4 oz. white rum

1 oz. lime juice

1 tbsp. sugar

12-13 mint leaves

6 blackberries

Club soda

1. In a shaker, muddle blackberries and mint leaves, then add sugar and lime juice to taste.

2. Now add the rum and some ice cubes and shake until the shaker is cold to the touch.

3. Without straining, pour into a glass and fill to the rim with club soda. Stir and enjoy.

PEACH MOSCOW MULE

Okay, this drink just screams summer and hot weather. And yes, it’s as refreshing as it sounds!

INGREDIENTS- makes 2.

3 oz. Peach vodka

6 oz. ginger beer

1 oz. lime juice

1. This drink doesn’t need to be shaken so it’s incredibly easy. Add 3 ounces of vodka to each mule cup filled with ice, along with 1/2 ounce lime juice and 3 ounces of ginger beer. Stir and garnish with a peace slice or lime wedge. Enjoy!

DIRTY MARTINI

This drink is the boujee-est of the boujee. Sometimes this drink can be a bit too much for me and sometimes it’s exactly what I needed. I don’t like to eat olives on their own but I can’t see enjoying this drink without them!

INGREDIENTS- makes 2.

5 oz. gin

1 oz. dry vermouth

1 oz. olive juice

Olives, for garnish

1. Using a mixing glass of your choice, add in the gin, vermouth, and olive juice. Add some ice and stir with a long spoon.

2. Place a strainer on top of the mixing glass and strain into 2 glasses. Tip: chill the glasses that you are going to be drinking out of. A martini tastes best when the glass is cold.

3. Place 2 olives on a toothpick and place toothpick on rim of each glass. Dive in feeling like the bad bitch you are.

FROZEN STRAWBERRY DAIQUIRI

I usually stay away from frozen drinks because they give me bad brain freezes, but I tend to drink them more than I think during hot weather. It’s an alcoholic slushee- you’re drawn to it. Especially if it’s topped with a little umbrella!

INGREDIENTS- makes 2.

8 oz. rum

1 cup fresh strawberries, chopped

2 bags (20 oz.) frozen strawberries

2 limes

Lime wedge, for garnish

1. In a blender, add rum, fresh strawberries and frozen strawberries, and the juice of 2 limes. Blend until it runs smooth.

2. Pour into 2 glasses and garnish with a lime wedge and a fake umbrella. Take a quick picture and slurp that baby down!

Alright, now that I’ve made all of you alcoholics as well, I don’t feel so bad! But seriously, let me know how you like these drinks- I want to know! I’ll be downing these like no tomorrow until quarantine is officially over. Then I’ll just be downing them for twice the price and somewhere with palm trees!
